JHP announces Line Shape Color: New Works by Steven Dahlstrom as its next gallery exhibit

Join us at the Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery for the opening reception of our newest gallery exhibit, Line Shape Color, a solo exhibition by Steve Dahlstrom. This collection showcases Dahlstrom's latest exploration into the core foundations of visual art. The show opens with a reception on March 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and runs through April 19. The reception is free and open to the public.

In his artist statement, Dahlstrom reflects on the shifting focus of his work, noting that while his heart has always been in abstraction, he has spent the last two decades primarily engaged in representational painting. He explains that this was less about any specific subject matter and more about the compositional integrity of the images he encountered.

This latest exhibition, however, signals a deliberate move toward the core foundations of visual art. Dahlstrom describes this collection as an exploration of the three essential compositional elements—line, shape, and color—and how they interact to create a pure visual rhythm on the canvas.

"As a painter, my heart is in abstraction. However, for the past 20 years or so, I have been involved in representational work—not for any specific subject matter, but for the compositional integrity of certain images that come my way. This exhibition displays my move toward working more closely with three essential compositional elements: line, shape, and color."
