The Cook County Historical Society believes that history is built upon the stories, photos, artifacts, and letters saved and shared by those who came before us. These records allow us to look back, learn, and truly understand what it was like to live through a specific moment in time.

As we navigate the present, we feel that we have the same responsibility to document our experiences for those who will come after us.

Currently, Operation Metro Surge, described by officials as the largest immigration operation in history, is occurring in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We recognize that these recent events have significantly impacted our community, the state, and beyond.

As stewards of history, our mission is to preserve *all* stories of local experiences for future generations as they unfold.

Beginning February 5, we are inviting community members to join us in writing a letter to those future generations, as part of a project we are calling "Letters to Our Future."

This is an opportunity to record your emotions, experiences, and stories of these times for future generations, who may look back with curiosity about what people in our day were thinking and doing. Again, we're looking for *all* emotions, experiences, and stories.

We fully respect your privacy. Letters may be anonymous, or you may share as much identifying information as you like. All letters will become part of our history collection, but we offer a range of privacy options regarding how and when your letter might be shared (learn more via the link below).

We will have plenty of pens and paper.

Warm cocoa and tea will also be available to keep things cozy.
