The Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery has a new addition to its permanent collection, thanks to a donation from the Johnson Trust and Leslie Carter (as its previous owner).
For years, a painting titled "Woman with Sticks," by local artist Anna C. Johnson, was believed to be an original in the gallery's collection. However, a few years ago, staff discovered that the painting was actually a copy that was created after the original was badly damaged in a fire.
The newly donated piece is an original, and while not the exact same as the copy version, it is very similar. JHP Gallery Manager Victoria shared that it was common for Anna Johnson to create multiple versions of her work, making this an even more special piece to have in our collection. See below for photos of both versions.
You can see this newly donated painting and the rest of her collection at the "Anna Johnson Collection Rotation" opening reception on Friday, August 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Heritage Post.
