Help keep the Cook County Aviation Story Alive

Clarence J. Krotz made a significant impact on aviation in Cook County by turning a piece of land he purchased along Devil Track Lake into an airstrip. Krotz, a former WWII bomber pilot, eventually went on to manage what was then known as the Devil Track Municipal Airport for over three decades.

His contributions to Cook County aviation are chronicled throughout Cook County Historical Society records, as well as documented through the voice of Kathy Krotz-Finn (Clarence’s daughter) and Richard Struck in the new book Chasing the North Wind.

To celebrate the achievements and impacts Clarence had on Cook County aviation, Struck has started a petition to get him inducted into the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame. To sign the petition or learn more, visit the link below.

Chasing the North Wind was added in early 2024 to the library of the MN Aviation Hall of Fame.
