Part-Time Bookkeeper
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Bookkeeper will be responsible for assisting the ED with financial processes and maintaining accurate financial records.
CCHS Mission Statement: The purpose of the Society shall be the collection, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the history of Cook County and to relate it to the history of the State of Minnesota.
Title: Bookkeeper
Hours per week: 5-10
Salary: $20/hour
Responsibilities
Process payments, invoices, income, and receipts, and enter data into accounting software or databases, filing hard copies where appropriate
Prepare financial statements showing income and expenditure, cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheets
Process tax payments and related reports
Assist the Accountant and ED with the preparation of yearly accounts
Verify the accuracy of accounts and alert the ED and Accountant of errors
Record any inconsistencies to help the ED and Accountant reconcile inaccuracies
Monitor grant funds and expenditures and assist ED with grant reporting
Assist the ED and Finance Committee with budget and audit processes
First few months may be 10 hours per week to review and establish systems; estimated 5 hours per week thereafter
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
One year of experience managing all aspects of QuickBooks for a business
One year of experience working as a professional bookkeeper, accountant, or financial assistant
Associate’s Degree or certificate in financial management, accounting, bookkeeping, or related discipline; may substitute additional years of relevant work experience for education
Good attention to detail to enter correct data into financial records and recognize errors
Computer literacy, especially familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, and accounting software such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Suite, and QuickBooks
Multi-tasking and organizational skills to manage different financial duties, including the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
Communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial matters in accessible terms
Knowledge of compliance requirements for Minnesota non-profit organizations
Commitment to a supportive, welcoming, and collaborative work environment
Ability to pass a background check
