Brandon Kuehn
October 16th through November 15th

Secret of the Lake

Artist's Statement:

What if nature is now the ‘other’ (the same way we have viewed different and subjugated cultures)? Is landscape an alien idea because we are no longer connected to the land? Our culture is getting further away from a basic understanding of natural processes and rhythms. I feel this lack of understanding creates an ominous presence in my landscapes. I am also interested in exploring the moment of sublime understanding. If we are in these places, at what point does the approaching storm lose its beauty and turn to legitimate fear? There is a moment of enlightenment that can only be reached when we fail to understand our natural surroundings.

Biography:

Brandon Kuehn was born and raised in Minnesota. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1997 from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He has shown work regionally and is currently a regular feature at the Waters of Superior Gallery in Duluth. He is currently a Master of Fine Arts student at the Art Institute of Boston and will graduate in 2010. He lives and works with his wife Julia in Arden Hills, MN.
